The India Post Office Act of 1854 was a major milestone in the postal history of India as it introduced adhesive postage stamps and ended payment for letters on a mileage basis.
It is the intention of this website to record as many aspects of Indian postal history as possible starting with the key date of 1 October 1854 and working itself up towards Indian independence in 1947. That being said there will also be information that pre-dates 1 October 1854 when needed for the greater understanding.
The data-base will include as many details as possible relating to the stamps and postal history of India, including postal rates, various postal markings, registration, date-stamp, stationery, various philatelic information and links and a large amount of covers illustrating all these things.
