WEBSITE CONCEPT
This website has been created to help postal history and stamp enthusiast that collect Gulf States have a point of reference when developing their collections.
It focuses on three periods of postal administration in the Gulf:
- The Indian post offices of Persia, Iraq, Kuwait, Bahrain, Dubai, Muscat and Guadur
- The British Postal Administration of Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Muscat
- The State Postal Administrations of Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, Abu Dhabi, Dubai, UAE and Oman
Being a collector of the area since 2000 I quickly discovered that historic resources and references covering the Gulf were limited and sporadic, at best, which is why I embarked on the project of compiling knowledge and sharing it via this website.
The foundation of the website is made up by books written and research done by early philatelists such as Major Tomkins, JAL Cooper, Alan Parsons, Hugill Clarke and Neil Donaldson, who all helped today’s collectors with their knowledge. However, the most important contributors are today’s collectors, so please share your collections, knowledge and discoveries with me for the greater good of the hobby.
The information included on the website is designed to match the need of a postal historian – i.e. information about stamps, aerogrammes, stationery, cancellations, registration, postage due, censorships, other postal markets and postal rates, all of which are illustrated via covers and other philatelic items.
There is also a vast library of articles, research and documents available for downloads, that should help philatelist work on their collections and knowledge.
I hope it will be of use to you.
