| Comments: | Ahwaz Post Office was opened on 15 October 1915 after British troops had invaded Ahwaz to protect the oil fields there. Initial discussions to open the post office had begun in 1913 but this was strongly objected to by the Persian Government. <br /> <br /> In 1920 is was decided that all four Indian post offices in Arabistan should fall under the authority of Mesopotamia. Ahwaz was closed down in April 1923. <br /> <br /> In March 1919, a weekly steamer service was opened between Magil (Basra) and Ahwaz for mail to Mesopotamia, a route that then became the easiest for mail to and from this part of Persia. |
