The 1929 Airmail Issue
In 1929 India issued a set of six airmail stamps depicting a “de Havilland DH66 Hercules” with the values 2as, 3as, 4as, 6as, 8as and 12as. All six stamps are found on paper with the watermark pointing to the left. While the normal watermark shows the stars pointing to the right when seen from the back of the stamp, all the values have also been recorded with the stars pointing left.
Two are found on the 3as value where a “Q instead of O” is found in “POSTAGE” – this error is found in Row 11/4. The other being the second “I” in INDIA resembling a “1”.
The two other errors are both found on the 8as purple being “The Missing Tree Top” and “The Reversed Serif on the second I” in INDIA.
