The 1970 Definitive Issue - New Currency
The second definitive set was issued on the 27th June 1970 and is similar in design to that of the 1966 set. It was issued on the occasion of the introduction of the new currency, The Rial Saidi, which replaced the Rupee. The 12 values issued were: 5 Baizas, 10 Baizas and 20 Baizas depicting the Sultan's Crest - 25 Baizas, 30 Baizas and 40 Baizas depicting the Sultan's crest and Muscat Harbor - 50 Baizas (Nakhal Fort) - 75 Baizas (Samail Fort) – 100 Baizas (Sohar Fort) – ¼ Rial (Nizwa Fort) – ½ Rial (Mutrah Fort) and 1 Rial (Mirani Fort).

The Fourth Definitive Issue – July 1970
The 8th stamp of the 4th Definitive Issue were issued on the 1st of July 1970. The value of the stamps was 35 Fils.
The 4th Definitive Issue consists of 12 values issued in the period from January 1st 1970 to 18th January 1971.

A set of 3 stamps was issued in order to commemorate Abu Dhabi’s participation at the 1970 World Fair, EXPO’70, held in Osaka, Japan. The 3 values issued were: 25 Fils, 35 Fils and 60 Fils.
The initial issue was meant to consist of 4 stamps but was eventually reduced to 3 stamps.

The 4th Anniversary of the Accession of Sheikh Zayed - 1970
To commemorate the fourth anniversary of the accession of Sheikh Zayed, the postal department of Abu Dhabi issued a set of three postage stamps. The values issued were 25 Fils, 60 Fils and 150 Fils. The theme of the stamps was the new “Abu Dhabi International Airport”
“EXPO 70” World Fair, Osaka – 1970
On the occasion of the “EXPO 70” World Fair in Osaka, Japan Qatar issued a set of six stamps depicting different Japanese inspired designs. The values issued were: 1D, 2D, 3D, 60D, 1.50 Riyal and 2 Riyals.

On the 9th of August 1970 HM Sultan Qaboos bin Said announced the new name of the country as the Sultanate of Oman. On the 16th January 1971 the second definitive set was re-issued with the old name “Muscat & Oman” overprinted with the new name “Sultanate of Oman”. The 12 values issued were: 5 Baizas, 10 Baizas and 20 Baizas depicting the Sultan's Crest - 25 Baizas, 30 Baizas and 40 Baizas depicting the Sultan's crest and Muscat Harbor - 50 Baizas (Nakhal Fort) - 75 Baizas (Samail Fort) – 100 Baizas (Sohar Fort) – ¼ Rial (Nizwa Fort) – ½ Rial (Mutrah Fort) and 1 Rial (Mirani Fort).

The 1971 Definitive Issue – The Sultanate of Oman Overprints - Overprint Varieties
On the 9th of August 1970 HM Sultan Qaboos bin Said announced the new name of the country as the Sultanate of Oman. On the 16th January 1971 the second definitive set was re-issued with the old name “Muscat & Oman” overprinted with the new name “Sultanate of Oman”. A number of varieties in the form of incomplete overprints exists.
The Fourth Definitive Issue – January 1971
The final 4 stamps of the 4th Definitive Issue were issued on the 18th of January 1971. The values issued were: 125 Fils, 150 Fils, 500 Fils and 1 Dinar. An interesting feature of the set is that the final denomination – the 1 Dinar stamp – only has the denomination in Arabic, whereas the rest of the stamps have the denomination in both Arabic and English.
The 4th Definitive Issue consists of 12 values issued on four different dates in the period from January 1st 1970 to 18th January 1971.
