The Trucial States Issue – 1961 On 7 January 1961 a set of 11 stamps intended for the use in the Trucial States of the Arabian Gulf were issued by the British Postal Administration. The values were 5np, 15np, 20np, 30np, 40np, 50np, 75np, 1r, 2rs, 5rs and 10rs. The stamps were only used in Dubai.

The 3rd Local Issue – 1961 The 3rd and final local set was issued on the 20th of March 1961. The set comprised of a total of 6 values: 5, 10, 15, 20, 30 and 40 Paise (N.P.). Donaldson writes as follows: 5 P represented the printed-paper rate, 10 P represented the internal letter rate and 40 P represented the registration fee. The remaining values were not linked to any particular postal rate. The 5 P and 10 P were sold out well before any of the other values and were not reprinted as Sheikh Salman died later that year in 1961.

The 1961 Definitive Issue – Introduction of Fils and Dinars – 1st April 1961 On the 1st of April 1961 Kuwait abolished the use of the Indian currency – Naye Paises and Rupees – and converted to Fils and Dinars. In conjunction with this conversion a new set of definitive stamps was issued. The 1961 Definitive Issue – The Imperforated Stamps The 1961 Definitive Issue was prepared by the British Postal Administration and was initially planned for 1960. The set was originally prepared with images of Sheikh Ali bin Abdullah al Thani but due to his abdication in October 1960 the portrait had to be changed to the new ruler, Sheikh Ahmed bin Ali al Thani. The issue was finally released on 2 September 1961.

Imperforated registration sheets were prepared for the issue and in 2013 a full set of sheets were released to the market - the stamps and the full sheets are illustrated here.
