The Second Definitive Issue – The Extra Bar - 1966
A major error in the form of an “Extra Bar” is found on the 1 Dinar on 10 Rupees overprint. Its status as a major error is confirmed as it only appears on the 1 Dinar stamp. The reason for this is that the “Extra Bar” is that a consequence of a piece of the printer’s spacing bar which worked up above the “D” in “Dinar”. The piece took the ink constantly in Row 7/3 and formed the “Extra Bar” which is typically 1 ½ - 2 mm in length.
A maximum of 60 copies exists and as per Neil Donaldson at least 4 of them are used.

The Second Definitive Issue – New Currency Overprints - 1966
With the abdication of Sheikh Shakhbut in favour of his brother Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan al Nahyan on August 6th 1966 the two sets of stamps from 1964 and 1965 were withdrawn. As the Office of the British Postal Agency did not have the time to issue a new set of stamps the 1964 definitive issue was sent to Bahrain where the Arabian Printing & Publishing House executed the overprint by obliterating the portrait of Sheikh Shakhbut with 3 or 4 bars.
Another development in the form of the devaluation of the Indian Rupee took place in close proximity to the change of power in Abu Dhabi. In order to avoid the effects of the devaluation the six other Trucial States and Qatar adopted the Saudi Riyal, while developing their own new currency. Abu Dhabi, however, was experiencing border problems with Saudi Arabia and chose to adopt the Bahraini Dinar instead. The new currency surcharge was applied simultaneously with the obliteration of the portrait of Sheikh Shakhbut.
The set was eventually withdrawn on the 7th of August 1967.

The Second Definitive Issue – Inverted Overprint - 1966
A full sheet of the 20 Fils on 20 Naye Paise overprint was found with the surcharge inverted. The inverted surcharge lies slightly to the right of the sheet so that the 20 impressed on the stamp actually is part of the “20 Fils” of the neighbouring stamp. According to Neil Donaldson the error is best seen on horizontal pairs of the stamp. The original finder kept 14 copies of the stamp and four copies were postally used.
